Yes! Miniature lights! That's the way to shop! They last a long time, save energy, and have almost no chance of setting a fire. Better yet, since the lights are inside the clear setting material, these are perfect for outdoor use. Some models are even battery operated, because LEDs indeed consume that little energy.
How is it that LED rope lighting can produce such bright light while using so little energy? The secret lies in how efficient they are. In a conventional light bulb, you would lose often in excess of 95% of the incoming electric current. Yes, those round little lights aren’t exactly light on the pocket in terms of electricity consumption. Even fluorescent lamps can only be 17 to 21% efficient. Where does the rest of the electricity go? It goes to heat. That’s why incandescent and fluorescent bulbs can get so hot. These small bulbs do not get hot, so you can rest easier concerning fire hazards. They also last up to ten times longer than many fluorescent lamps. In the end, you will save more by buying LEDs rather than buying fluorescent lamps many times.
So why don’t we retrofit all our lighting to white LED lamps? Simply put, these illumination light applications aren’t cheap. LEDs are used a lot in cove lighting, though it can get pricey. For decorative purposes, like in rope lights, they are perfect though. A 200 count string of lights would be much more than enough to run up, down, and around your Christmas tree, no problem. Many vendors sell strings of 50 to 10 lights, so just one or two of these would be sufficient for normal-sized Christmas trees.
It is also possible to buy LED rope lights in bulk. Looking up any online shop selling these and you will see offers of these ropes on spools. Buying wholesale is best if you want to keep the cost per length down, but for ordinary users, it is best to stick with pre-cut lengths. The only ones who really need to buy those spools are commercial establishments looking to sell or improve their signage.
The fun part is that LEDs produce saturated colors with a wide range of choices. You could take white xmas LED light strings, red LEDs, green, or even blue strings. These little light bulbs are perfect for Christmas lighting, since they can be programmed to light up in patterns, produce no noticeable heat, can be used indoors or outdoors, and best of all can be reused time and again. This year, go for quality.
Don’t buy cheap lights, justifying with “I’ll only be using them for the season, anyway”. Shell out a little more and you can take home some LED rope lighting. You can use these again next year, and the year after, that, and so on. Sting lights are also great because they have a smooth, solid surface. No more snagging between wires, making decorating the tree a fair hassle. There is a bit of added weight though, so make sure to secure these with some twist wires.
Grab strings of red and blue lights to decorate your Christmas tree. The traditional red-green combo works great for general Christmas lighting, while yellow and yellow-orange LED strings can be used to create a warm “candlelight” feel. Get funky and fresh with purple and multicolored LED strings. Whatever color scheme you choose, you can be sure that xmas LED string lights can provide what you need. These lovely lights can also be used any time of the year!
Wishing you a very merry Christmas and all the best with your Christmas LED Rope Lights!
Christmas LED Rope Lights

LEDs can really add a touch of flashy beauty to an otherwise common looking tree. Like you mentioned, you should never buy the cheapest product available as this may increase the risks of your tree catching on fire.
I love these LED lights. They are such a green, cost effective way to decorate for Christmas. And now that they come in solar powered versions, how can you go wrong.
I agree with you – don’t buy cheap throw away lights. Pay a little more and get something that will last you for years and save money in the long run.
LED rope lights are the way to to go for sure. Brighter, cheaper to run and consumes less electricty (so ticks the ‘green’ box).
I agree, that red and blue rope lights for decorating the christmas tree would work well.
Scott.
Yes, I finally bought some of these this year, and was very pleased with my purchase. They look great, and save money.
